| The New England Masters will be played using the FIDE Laws
of Chess. The tournament will be 9 rounds and will use the
standard Swiss pairing system. Special attention should be
made to the following: TIME CONTROL
The time control for all games will be 40 moves in 2 hours
followed by an additional 30 minutes to complete the rest of the
game on the completion of move 40. All clocks will be set
with a 5 second delay per move, in effect from move 1.
BYES
Byes will not be allowed in the tournament. Norm
seekers should note that it is necessary to play all 9 rounds to
be eligible for norms. Should a player have to miss a
round and wishes to remain in the tournament, a zero point bye
will be awarded.
CELL PHONES
The FIDE rule of immediate forfeit will be enforced for a
player having a cell phone or other device that makes an audible
sound during tournament play.
RECORDING MOVES/SCORE KEEPING
Players will be expected to keep a legible scoresheet for
the duration of the game. If a player has less than 5
minutes remaining on the clock, that player will be excused from
keeping score but will be expected to update the scoresheet to
the current move if this was at the first time control.
Players may be requested to use an electronic scoresheet
during their games to enable the live broadcast on the internet.
In this case, the player may also keep a paper scoresheet for
their own records, although not necessary. However in this
case, the electronic scoresheet will be the official scoresheet
for the game in progress and will be used for verification of
any necessary claims.
FLAG FALLS
As per the FIDE rules, the Arbiter may also call a flag fall
on a game. NORM INFORMATION
